It is What We Call Fate

“Ethan,” I tried to talk calmly, “can we talk?”

“I have to do my new project first, I’ll see you in ten minutes.”

“Okay, I’ll wait at cafeteria, see you.”

I hang up the line and opened my locker. I reached a picture of a guy I have known well. He looked at the camera with his sorrowful gaze, he had cried for 2 days without a long break. It made everyone who saw this picture felt sympathy. He had never cried after that time because of his promise to his mom.

We lived close to each other as known as he was my neighbor and the day he lost his mom was my 17th birthday. He came to my birthday party at my garden and we spent time full of happiness. We danced, sang, made some noises, and fired some fireworks. We didn’t know what would happen after my party, we just enjoyed the night.

The party was ended almost at 4 a.m. and I was too tired to check my phone. When I got up I was realizing that there were more than ten missed calls. It was him. I went out of my house, running. I couldn’t believe what I saw. There were many people in black.

“Are you checking my photo out?” I turned my head back and I found Ethan stood up right behind me.

“I said I’ll wait at cafeteria.”

“I just go out of cafeteria, you aren’t there. What’s wrong?”

“Ethan,” I spoke, “can we just break up?”

I bowed my head, couldn’t face him. I didn’t know what I thought, but the tears were streaming down. I felt a big stone punched me right at my chest. I couldn’t breath normally.

“Please, look at me!” Ethan replied harshly then lifted my chin, “Is it a want break up girl’s look?”

“Give me a second and I’ll explain the reason,” I murmured, “For the last a year, I’ve been thinking about my mistakes, if I hadn’t made a party at that time, you wouldn’t have lost your mom. She wouldn’t have gotten heart attack because my party’s noises. I wouldn’t have been so tired and ignored your calls. I’m so sorry Ethan, if you need someone to blame, it’s me. It’s too hard for me in the same relationship with you.”

“Sssst...” He placed his forefinger on my lips, “I believe in fate, when my mom passed away and when I came to your party, both of them were fate. When I admitted that I love you, it was my choice and I believe it was a part of my fate.”

“But...”

“My mom will be happy as long as I’m happy. It won’t happen if we break up.”

He hugged me then.
