5 things that make me really happy

It's really hard to describe some things that bring happiness for me. But here I am, trying to tell five things that have already made me really happy for the last 21 years of my life.

1. Words

For me, sometimes words means more than just words, they mean so much. A paragraph or even a short sentence can make my heart flutter, not only in cheesy ways, but also in any ways. I appreciate how people text me with their chosen words, especially when they put some ways to compliment me through words. Sometimes, their words make me cry for happiness.

I remember my beloved friend sent me an entire paragraph of compliment through e-mail to celebrate my birthday, I couldn’t stop staring at that e-mail for at least 5 minutes until started to cry. Another experience was a chat from my lecturer saying that he noticed me in an event held by an organization in my faculty. He said that he really wished that I could follow the journey of a great alumnus who became the event’s guest. Just a short chat, but it really makes me smile ear to ear.

I did realize that not all people have a word of affirmation type of love language, but primarily warm words are one thing that can make my day.

2. Have a conversation with my family

As working parents, my mom and my dad should be at their offices from 7 am to 5 pm. Of course, when they get home, they are already tired and need to rest immediately. But thankfully, they always ask how’s my brother and my life going every day.

When I have a conversation with my parents, I feel that I’m still lucky enough to have a good relationship with my parents. We just talk about anything, such as how’s our days going, what happened in the office or school, and sometimes we talk about the current issues like the artists or the politicians. Even though usually we end up with a little argument or maybe a big fight, it doesn’t matter because the point is we still can communicate well enough as a family.

3. Hang out with friends

When I took the MBTI test, it stated that I was an extrovert and still I am. I gain energy from the crowd, especially from my friends. So, hanging out with my friends is my cup of tea. Sometimes we hang around in our faculty, order some foods, have a conversation, or do some homeworks. But the other time, riding outside the college to some places is one of our things in hanging out. For instance, a year ago I went to Bandung and Malang with my college friends. Besides, I had several beaches to visit in Gunung Kidul including planned a beach camp with my friends. A lot of fun comes right away when I hang out with my friends, so I really look forward to do a lot of things together with my friends in the future.

4. Help other people

I don’t know why happiness keeps coming when people send me the words “thank you for helping me”. No, I’m not an attention seeker, but when I can help my friend or everyone and they are satisfied with my help, I feel happy too. My friend once asked me, “Why do you always all out to help people? Even you barely know them.” At that time, I didn't know what to say. I think it is just my nature to be a helping person.

If they ask for a favor that I can help, I will help them as much as possible. But, when someone asks me to do a favor that I am probably not sure I can do it myself, sometimes I say yes immediately. I know it sounds so wrong and it can make a burden for me, but to be honest, it is not as hard as you think. Almost everything that I’ve said yes before I can handle it. The feeling after I can help anyone is the best feeling ever.

5. Me time

Everyone like me time, right? Even though I am an extrovert type of person, sometimes I need time to be alone with myself. I do me time with several activities I like such as painting. I don’t know if it can be called as my hobby because I’m not a good painter. Despite the fact, I decorated my bedroom with my own painting and I feel so satisfied every time I see those painting hanging on my wall. Besides painting, I also love to watch series or movies (who don’t). Recently, I fell into Thai series and still with the Western series as well, ah and the Korean drama, of course. People said that you may like reading books if you enjoy watching movies, and I do. I like reading novels, but not non-fiction books which can make me get bored easily.

So, that's the five things that make me really happy (recently).  I think there will be always a change in those kind of things. Well, I'll update it later on lol. In my perspective, every little things matter for developing happiness, at least for me.
